Module 5: Lesson Planning (TEFL006)

Description
Module: Lesson Planning

Module breakdown:
Unit 1: Begin with the end in mind
Unit 2 Lesson Flow
Unit 3: Being Practical

Module outline: Failing to plan is planning to fail, and the three steps into the classroom (also known as the three-step plan) aren't going to cut it. Through this module, we aim to introduce the principles behind lesson planning and enable you to create effective lesson plans without relying on someone else’s templates or lesson designs.

Why plan lessons?

You should avoid simply copying and pasting templates or using someone else's plan. Instead, take a more thoughtful approach. When you plan a lesson, you're not just following a formula. You want your lessons to be imaginative, special, and effective. To achieve this, start by knowing what you want to achieve and then focus on arranging our lessons well. Only after that do you add the practical details.

By the end of this module, you will know:
• the principles behind planning an effective lesson.
• how to set clear learning objectives for your lessons.
• the process and flow of a lesson.

By the end of this module, you will understand:
• the theoretical and practical basis for lesson planning.
• that lesson planning is not only for new educators but forms the foundation of a successful teacher.
• the impact that the online environment can have on your lesson planning.

By the end of this module, you will be able to:
•Create a lesson plan that clearly states your goals for the lesson, defines the anticipated learning outcomes for the students, and details the methods you'll use to accomplish these objectives.
• Use various approaches to achieve your aims
• Apply the practical aspects of lesson planning
• Identify learner needs and interests.
• Develop lesson plans that integrate goals that are both attainable and measurable, allowing for the chance to receive feedback.
• Demonstrate your skill in designing tailored learning experiences to meet the specific needs of your students.
• Design learning experiences that encompass learning objectives, evaluations, and feedback.
• Develop practice tasks and assessments aimed at fostering genuine language use for various purposes and abilities.
